A CESSPIT OF MORAL FILTH …


   •  LYRA, THIS IS MRS. COULTER ...      a charismatic, narcissistic woman whose development follows into the acceptance of Dust, the complicated relationship she holds with her estranged child & former ex-lover. She is originally the head of the General Oblation Board, a heavily scrutinised project established under the magisterium in order to study and actively practice severing children from their daemons, therefore "eradicating sin". Her daemon, an unnamed golden snub-nosed monkey helps her greatly in acquiring the trust of others, however the two have an incredibly detached relationship due to Marisa's experience with religion, her definition of sin and the impact of societal shame over her defamation after her affair, resulting in her daemon remaining silent in the presence of others.Her attempts to reinstate her daughter Lyra into her life, over a decade after Asriel had taken her away to Jordan College result in Lyra discovering the truth behind both her work and her true identity as her mother, snowballing into the destruction of the Oblation Board and a complicated series of events throughout her journey to find her again.

   •  PORTRAYAL NOTE.      the way i write marisa will vary heavily depending on the writer im interacting with and our discussions around her as a character. at the core of things i am show!positive. i enjoy both the book and show interpretations of her character as separate interpretations, and have mutuals who enjoy and / or dislike one or the other. some threads will lean on book!marisa, others on show, it depends. i understand the changes that have been made, for better or worse, and the differences between both pullman and the showrunners direction with the character, and while i understand the fact that the showrunners have essentially created an entirely different character in the adaptation, i still enjoy exploring that and how ruth has built upon her just as much as i enjoy the original characterisation.that being said, I do not accept the later episodes of season 3 over the events of The Amber Spyglass. apart from scenes like her reconciliation with the monkey, her initial appearance in Geneva pre-episode 5 and the final scene between lyra and the monkey, i didn't enjoy her characterisation nor how they portrayed her relationship with asriel, and was incredibly disappointed they used things like the spectre control as a plot device instead of genuinely exploring that idea further. I also refuse to incorporate the implications made between Marisa and MacPhail in the show, so please don't ask me to. ever.

VERSES.


BUT DEISEL IS DESIRE ...

   III  CANON: HIS DARK MATERIALS.      a generalised verse set at any point throughout the events of the trilogy's timeline. normally used to tag canon - adjacent threads with an unestablished point in the timeline.

  III CANON: NORTHERN LIGHTS.   head of the general oblation board, acknowledged member of the royal arctic institute, once ostracised widow to the late edward coulter & the estranged mother of lyra belacqua. marisa coulter pursues as a right hand to the church, following a long established study into the severance of human beings from their daemon. malicious practices follow as she leads helpless street children to a false sanctuary, all the while trying to protect her own child from abduction and navigate her relationship with her former ex-lover, lord asriel.

   III  CANON: THE SUBTLE KNIFE.     draws themes and events from both the subtle knife and show scenes. follows through on marisa's interaction with mary in her office, the jailing scene with lee in episode three, and the confrontation had in boreal's house with lyra before she escapes. heavily plays into her ability to control the spectres, along with switching between both variations of boreal's poisoning depending on the muse being written with.

   III  CANON: THE AMBER SPYGLASS.      book based,    set throughout the entirety of the events of the amber spyglass, from when she drugs and abducts lyra in order to try and protect her, through to the events involving her theft of the intention craft and the disarming of the bomb in Saint-Jean-les-Eaux, up until the final moments of her descent with asriel and metatron into the abyss. does not follow show canon established in season three past the first two episodes.

   III  CANON: THE AFFAIR.      married to edward coulter, marisa has fallen beyond her ambition to entangle herself in an avid relationship with lord asriel belacqua. glances exchanged during events evolve into nights spent alone, from the belacqua estate to the hidden treasures of fairisle, exchanging discussion leagues above what marisa earns from a marriage born of formality. set throughout the entirety of their affair, right up until edward discovers that lyra is asriel's child and is killed.

   III  CANON: THE FIELDS OF EVIL.      a contained verse set to explore marisa's involvement within the oblation board, the maystadt process and the silver guillotine. mun takes liberties with details based on headcanons, personal knowledge and experience with the series, and as such there may be inaccuracies present when compared with canonical material.

   III  CANON DIV: POST - ABYSS.      having survived the fall, marisa awakens severely pained in the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. left with little more than her name and boreal's belongings, she is forced to re-establish herself in a world far from her own.    heavily canon - divergent. does not follow the rule established in which people deteriorate sooner when away from their own world.    can be explored either in a lone or a masriel / chaos family based setting.

   III  CANON DIV: LADY BELACQUA.      wife of lord asriel belacqua and mother of lyra belacqua. set within the possibility of marisa and asriel marrying and raising lyra, inspired heavily by the "we should have married, and brought her up ourselves" line in the amber spyglass.    marisa steps upon equal ground with asriel in his pursuits all the while following her own need for ambition, attempting to balance her study and work life carefully with lyra's upbringing.    primarily set to delve into marisa's conflict around marriage, motherhood and ambition.    ... mother. bride. king.

   III  CANON DIV: THE OTHER WORLDS.      operating under the idea that Marisa has left her world before / right after Edward's murder, and by extension fakes her own death, taking new-born Lyra with her.    Delamare is an adopted name for the sake of security, rather than Coulter, or her birth name, which was originally Van Zee.     does not comply with the rule where beings can't survive beyond their own world.PRIMARY: Marisa leaves Edward herself, taking Lyra with her and orchestrating her own faked death, before travelling through the window she had taken to have her portrait done, having to settle with what little she could bring with her and whatever of her own she could sell off.MASRIEL-CENTRIC: the idea was arranged as a pact between Marisa and Asriel after he murders Edward, leaving through the window with baby Lyra and raising her in Will and Mary's world while Asriel works toward his rebellion.

   III  AU: FOLIE A DEUX.      a contained verse looking at the relationship between marisa and her sister marisol ( an original muse owned by dani via @viciousgold ), and their strained dynamic after marisol’s departure for new denmark in their youth.

   III  AU: LIFE AFTER MIDNIGHT.      a descendant from vampiric lineage, marisa delamare is raised by her mother, a scornful woman, to work her way seamlessly into the fineries of life from her youth, eventually wed to edward coulter for societal gain.

   III  AU: SUPERNATURAL.      single mother and physicist repurposing her skills toward the development of weaponry against the supernatural and entrapment equipment, Marisa juggles the task of delving into her work with maintaining a progressively strenuous relationship with her young daughter, Lyra. entirely capable of lending her advancements to either side, she maintains an ambiguous alliance, and is primarily self - serving having worked in the past with several groups and organisations such as the British Men Of Letters.alternatively, there is a similar verse following this plot, following the events of the other worlds verse, in which Marisa finds a way to repurpose her skills from her own world into what each group may require of her at first.

   III  AU: NBC HANNIBAL.      Referred to Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the years following the death of her husband and the detrimental impact of her affair, Marisa delves further into unorthodox habits upon re-establishing purpose and rebuilding her reputation from the ground up. Years later, a well renowned physicist known in her circles mostly for her charm, intelligence and influence, she returns for work during a conference in baltimore, sudden interest snowballing into becoming an external participant in observing the murders of the Chesapeake Ripper.Plays with the idea of Hannibal's impact on the becoming of others, primarily inspired setting wise by characters like Bedelia, Alana and Freddie.

   III  AU: TED LASSO.      Full description yet to be written. currently playing with the idea of marisa and edward being of high status in their respective fields, and that edward and rupert aided one another financially through the years. both through rupert’s inital ownership of richmond and edward’s political work, leading marisa to partake with him in functions and charity events. by the time rebecca divorces rupert and claims ownership over richmond, marisa seeks out her own share in the club on behalf of her department. ideally she would be very late 30s in season one, and early 40s by the time season three concludes.

   III  AU: BOND / KINGSMAN.      Once wed to Edward Coulter, one of Britain's leading political figures, Marisa uses her position in order to progress financially and intellectually, soon offered a position with an unorthodox organisation interested in her work in both neurological study and experimental physics. rising through rankings in quick succession, she proves her loyalty in killing her husband and takes to killing the lead weeks later, disbanding the organisation and rebuilding it as her own, now the oblation board.Throughout her marriage, she perused an affair with Asriel Belacqua, and had eventually become pregnant with their daughter, Lyra. Asriel's resentment toward her hidden practices, and her own acknowledged inability to follow through in raising her had resulted in them agreeing to have Lyra taken away, the two separating to focus on their own ambitions aside from occasional meetings.the golden monkey is trained and highly intelligent, aiding her in soothing subjects and gaining trust from or intimidating potential prospects. the oblation board currently focuses on taking subjects based on an eligibility checklist in order to ensure they remain undetected. Lyra comes up during one of these check-throughs despite Marisa's precautions, and is even found in one of their facilities when she uses the false name "Lizzie Brooks".

   III  AU: WEDNESDAY.      the newest member of staff to grace Nevermore academy's doorstep, Marisa has earned herself a place as the academy's primary science teacher in order to secure herself in newfound world, the most peculiar thing about her to students being the small golden monkey often trailing alongside her. he does well to defer the lingering curiosity and scrutiny of whether she is human or monster, and questions on the matter- and furthermore her origins, are never entertained, only ever entrusted with the school's current principal.

   III  AU: RESIDENT EVIL.      Full description yet to be written. Marisa's involvement revolves around The Connections, Eveline's development and the ambition to create biological weaponry through psychological control rather than other means.alternatively, another path is based on Marisa being an active member of the Umbrella Corporation, and an active participant in the development of the Wesker Project, her greatest achievement being her break through in the use of psychological reprogramming and the use of chemical compounds in order to develop soldiers for requested clients.
